How To Make Your Own DIY Air Purifier

Is your room infested with dust, allergens, and other harmful particles? You do not want, for the moment, to mobilize a budget to buy a good air purifier to improve your quality of life? You can start by making a booster air purifier. Here are the steps of this little DIY workshop!

  1. Buy a fan

It must have at least one flat face so that you can attach a “True HEPA” filter to it. The latter will allow you to eliminate up to 99.97% of the harmful particles which are near your supplement air purifier. Fans that have a flat face are usually equipped with a built-in motor. You can find it in stores for ten dollars, and much less on the second-hand market.

  1. Buy a "True HEPA" filter

“True HEPA” filters are relatively expensive for a supplemental air purifier, not to mention that they will have to be changed regularly. Instead, you can opt for filters that mimic the characteristics of HEPA models, which are commonly referred to as "HEPA-like" or "HEPA 90%".

  1. Remove the grille from your fan

This is where the fun of DIY begins! It helps to have a good pair of pliers to get it right. Then set the power to "3" (or to the maximum possible) and remove the adjustment knob. You will be able to install another button on your DIY air purifier. Indeed, the "original" button obstructs the HEPA air filter. You will have to turn your device on and off directly from the electrical outlet.

  1. Put the strap on the air filter

Use a string to tie the HEPA filter (or equivalent) to the front of the fan, and voila! You now have your homemade air purifier. The metal bar in the middle will go through the filter a bit. You can remove it by sawing it off, but it will not impact the air purification performance of your DIY appliance.

The total cost of this air filter does not exceed $25. You can supplement its performance with air-purifying plants.
