Cairns High School has educated many of Cairns' brightest and best over the last 100 years. Here are some interesting facts about the school:

In 1914, Mr. George Morris became Principal of what was then known as Cairns Technical School. In 1916, he renamed the school Cairns High School in recognition of its growing reputation.

The original Cairns High School building on Wickham Street was opened in 1917 and had an enrolment of 210 students. It was destroyed by fire on 21st December 1951. The current building opened in 1952 and has an enrolment of 1,383 students.

In 1988, the "Cairns High" emblem was redesigned to have a more contemporary look and feel. This new logo has been used ever since.

Since 1988, there have been 6 Principals – Mr. John Adams (1988-1991), Dr. Bill McLaughlin (1991-1996), Mr. Greg Garner (1996-1999), Mrs. Bernadette Saunders (1999-2002), Ms. Jacinta O'Donnell (2002-2007) and Ms. Anita Corbett (2007-present).
